History of the Société d’Histoire et de Généalogie Lévrard-Becquet (Lévrard-Becquet Historical and Genealogical Society)
Summer 2012.
As you know, the Society will celebrate the tenth anniversary of its founding in a few months’ time.
In the beginning, a few people passionate about history and genealogy came together to pool their knowledge and their documents, along with the wish to grow that store and to share it with those around them.
Over the years we have had substantial support from the municipal council of St-Pierre-les-Becquets, which has provided us with premises, equipment, operating grants and welcome moral support. The municipalities of Ste-Cécile-de-Lévrard and Ste-Sophie-de-Lévrard regularly award us a much-appreciated grant, along with the help our research requires.
Our website, put online nearly six years ago, has made us known throughout Québec and even in the United States; we receive requests for historical and genealogical information on a regular basis.
Our publications of the BMS registers (baptisms, marriages and burials) of two parishes have met with gratifying success, and we even have to reprint the Ste-Cécile volume.
The founding of the historical society has stirred the curiosity of a great many people, and the cultural and heritage benefits are beginning to be felt; this is of course a long-term trend.
Our board of directors manages it all energetically.
